New Master’s Course Challenges

After receiving a variety of critical societal challenges from our partners throughout the city and region of Stockholm we have narrowed it down to three key challenges for this term’s masters’ students to solve:

Challenge 1
How might we create senior residences with age friendly environments and good mobility solutions that encourage physical activity, social interaction and wellbeing?

Challenge 2
How can we increase knowledge and insights about the mental health and wellbeing of young people?

Challenge 3
How might we improve the patient experience before and during an examination at the radiology department?

For twenty weeks our master’s students will work in teams to solve these challenges by using the design thinking method. Through this process they will gain a deep understanding for the needs of the user before they test and prototype their ideas. The students will conduct in-depth, first-hand research while they work in close collaboration with the user and challenge provider to develop wholistic solutions. This term’s challenges are provided by Äldreförvaltningen, Micasa Fastigheter, Regionledningskontoret och Södersjukhuset.

The challenges have been selected through the following criteria:

  • The challenge relates to Openlab’s mission to solve complex societal challenges
  • The end result needs to have the potential of being upscaled and distributed
  • The challenge contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals of Agenda 2030
  • The challenge has been established within the applying organisation

The course is run by Openlab, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Södertörn University, Stockholm University and Karolinska Institutet.

We look forward to hearing the half-term presentations on the 27th of October!
