Concept: We propose the creation of sustainable partnerships between the DAC and the academic and business worlds that will serve as a support system for the DAC’s participants through engagement in internships or research projects.

Disabled adults are a vulnerable but oft-neglected group in Swedish society. There are insufficient services set up to support them, and budget reductions and unfavorable political decisions are unfortunately commonplace. The problems are further complicated by the diversity of the disabled adults; what may work for one may be completely inappropriate for another.
Our Openlab group was given the challenge to design “DV 2.0” for the Rinkeby-Kista Day Activity Center (Dagliga Verksamhet) using Design Thinking tools and techniques. The first half of the 4-month course was spent learning about the Rinkeby-Kista DAC organization and the challenges faced by the participants and staff. In the second half, we explored and prototyped solutions for two outstanding issues that we found, namely the need for fresh ideas in bringing out the participants’ full potential, as well as the lack of work opportunities for the participants.
