We offer courses for professionals, students and postgraduates who wish to develop their skills, potential and passion for innovation that benefit society. In the courses, we apply a challenge-driven user centered approach and work creatively and practically.
This course introduces design thinking as a mindset and a method. We work with concrete real-life challenges and hands-on exercises, with a focus on understanding and utilizing the method.

A continuation course in design thinking and insight-driven innovation. Deep-dive into the first part of the design thinking process, focusing on learning more about your users and understanding and reframing your challenge.

A design thinking continuation course focusing on making and testing simple prototypes. The course gives you inspiration and tools to make ideas a reality and teaches how to test them on a small scale with your target group.

Our inspiration session is an energizing, knowledge-intensive and practically oriented half-day session. You get to try design thinking to develop solutions to a challenge for a user, and understand how the method can be applied to various societal challenges.

Academic course, 15 credits
The course “Challenges for emerging cities” is an interdisciplinary project-based master’s course open to students at KI, SU, KTH and SH. The course is based on challenge-driven innovation and design thinking. Together with your team, you develop user-centered solutions to a societal challenge from the public sector.
Academic course, 4.5 credits
“Bridging science and societal needs” is the name of our interdisciplinary course for PhD students at Openlab’s partner universities. The course provides tools and knowledge on how to anchor one’s research in societal needs and make a grater societal impact using design thinking.
