There is an articulated need for improvement in treatment, development, access to healthcare and the business of healthcare as well (Haughom, 2014). Region Stockholm Innovation is keen on fostering healthcare innovation, with the current aim being “to boost innovation in Region Stockholm through matchmaking of healthcare needs with suggested innovation developments from start-ups and the private sector”.

To address this challenge the methodology of Design Thinking was utilized within the Openlab Master’s project course. The project team went through the phases of Empathize, Define, Ideate, Prototype and Test which resulted in four preliminary solution concepts, all fostering matchmaking of healthcare employees with external innovators in different ways. After evaluation, a digital matchmaking solution that the team called  InnoMatch was further developed. The current project report gives an overview of the whole Design Thinking process and introduces the concept of InnoMatch in detail.
