Original challenge: How can we increase knowledge and insights about the mental health and well-being of young people? Challenge from: Region Stockholm Redefined challenge: How can we understand young people’s well-being by co-creating empowering and open spaces? Solution: Hur är Läget? Concept: “Hur är läget?” is a solution that offers well-being tools as well as the opportunity to co-create a personal well-being box. The concept would involve three steps: (1) sending an envelope to a sample group to introduce them to some well-being information and tools; (2) directing the user to the website, where they can create a personalized box by answering a survey; and (3) sending the box of personalized and certain mandatory content to the user. This means that in exchange for a voucher, Region Stockholm will be able to collect data on young people and their well-being in order to learn more and combat mental illness. As the global physical health gets better, mental health problems are rising. Globally, there is a lack of awareness, quality, and promotion of mental health, while the costs of mental illness are constantly rising. Region Stockholm gave us a challenge, to obtain young people’s viewpoints and to promote mental health and well-being, by utilizing new data collection methods. We used Design Thinking techniques to design solutions for our target users. By including and striving to understand the youth (15-29 years old) we could redefine the challenge according to their needs: How can we understand young people’s well-being by co-creating empowering and open spaces? We developed five concept ideas and after further feedback and iteration we decided to develop the campaign ‘Hur är läget?’, that provides tools for well-being, as well as offers an opportunity to co-create a personal well-being box. Our recommendations and ideas should ideally provide Region Stockholm with a solid foundation for the future work with promoting the well-being of Stockholm’s local youth.
