Report abstract
This challenge is situated within the context of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), a group of chronic, immune-mediated inflammatory disorders of the gastrointestinal tract comprising ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease.
Our project is based on the concept of design thinking which focuses on understanding the experiences, needs, and perspectives of the people affected by the issue. The goal was to create a solution for a stated challenge from Karolinska University Hospital, of improving the care and support for patients with IBD.
The foundational research of the issue was based on interviews and surveys with patients and people of other related roles. A lack of emotional support, information about the treatment journey and delayed diagnosis were some of the main findings that became the foundation for the creation of the solution.
Five concepts were created, of which one – a website, was chosen to be further developed with the help of patient feedback. Ultimately the website aims to be a platform that provides IBD patients with information and guidance through their own care journey and emotional support partly through a buddy matching system.
Project presentation video will be published shortly.
