Four Innovative Solutions to Societal Challenges

Presentations of four exciting solutions to complex societal challenges, developed by our wonderful and smart master’s students, kicked off the Openlab year 2025.

The students have spent 20 weeks in interdisciplinary teams to understand the challenge, the users, and each other. With the help of their different perspectives, skills and creativity, they have created promising user-centered concepts. In January, the proposals were delivered to the challenge givers from the City of Stockholm and Region Stockholm in the form of project presentations and a final report.

The projects:

🐝 Bee trustee – Bli god man
Based on a challenge to recruit new trustees, the team Trusting Hands developed a gathering called Bee Trustee. It provides a space for socialization, inspiration, and recognition through digital badges, enhancing trustees’ sense of accomplishment.

🌳 Famnen – The Neighborhood Tree
Team Milkyway has sought ways for the diverse residents of Farsta district to learn about and reach the preventative Social Services in an inclusive and empowering way. Their solution, The Neighbourhood Tree, is an interactive installation in the local library, featuring information in the form of multilingual flyers with QR codes linking directly to the app.

👵 Future elderly
Addressing a challenge from Farsta Elderly Care, Prevention Unit about future needs of and expectations on elderly care, team Future elderly came up with the concept StuSup. This is a University course where students from different backgrounds study relevant topics related to aging and elderly care, and collaborate with senior mentors to develop activities for elderly and soon-to-be-seniors in Farsta.
